SDN Communications Purchasing Sioux Valley Wireless

SDN Communications is purchasing a wireless internet company. SDN’s CEO says the addition of Sioux Valley Wireless will help expand his company’s ability to deliver broadband services to customers in rural South Dakota.

Mark Shlanta is the CEO of SDN Communications.
He says currently SDN’s connections are fiber based, although a few member companies do have some wireless assets. He says adding the wireless spectrum and towers of Sioux Valley Wireless, a subsidiary of Sioux Valley Energy, will help the company extend its reach beyond the limit of its fiber backbone.

“Perhaps business customers on our fiber network, sometimes it’s not always affordable to have a secondary path in and out of the location,” Shlanta says. “We might be able to provide some connectivity through the wireless assets of Sioux Valley Wireless. I believe we’ll be able to add to our customers a business continuity product, in the case of different disasters, quick re-location, mixed with our business clients be able to see us move even more quickly at times when disaster strikes.”

Shlanta says current Sioux Valley Wireless customers shouldn’t see any major changes. If anything, he says he hopes they see improvements.

“We’ve been working with Sioux Valley in this transition too on a series of plans to do some upgrades in the existing markets, so that customers should enjoy faster speeds,” Shlanta says. “Some will start to see that in early 2015, and we’ll continue to work on those upgrades throughout 2015 and into 2016.”

Shlanta says SDN Communications intends to close on the sale around the end of March of 2015. He says nobody will lose their jobs, and he intends to make the transition as seamless as possible for consumers. The business will continue to operate as Sioux Valley Wireless.
