SDHSAA Clarifies Recent Issues

The South Dakota High School Activities Association is under public scrutiny over information revealed at last weeks meeting.  John Krogstrand is the Assistant Executive Director of the SDHSAA. He says the public is confused over new guidelines for state events. Krogstrand says the Activities Association is trying to keep every venue option open.

"We do not bid out state tournaments like maybe so many other states do. A lot of our neighboring states will say, ok give us your proposal, say how you’re going to handle this, meet these minimal requirements and were going to select the best bid; whoever is going to give us the most money or those kinds of things. We don’t do that. We look at our member schools, what the facilities, what the different locations across the state have to offer and really just try and widdle down what is going to give the best overall tournament experience. Not only for the kids but for moms and dads, parents, well wishers, entire communities that come to these events," Krogstrand says.

Krogstrand says discussion surrounding the football classifications proposal brought forth by the SDHSAA over a week ago is also causing confusion. He says feedback from the schools shows the board what to keep in the proposal and what to toss out.  An updated proposal for football classifications is expected to be publicized sometime in February with a public meeting in March.
