Officials Investigate Three Fatal Crashes

SDPB

The Highway Patrol and Union County officials are investigating three separate fatal accidents on Interstate 29 in southeast South Dakota. The crashes happened Tuesday and reportedly occurred within an hour of one another.

South of Elk Point, 27-year-old Angela Beth Snoozy of Emery died when she lost control of her auto, crossed the median and struck a garbage truck.

A few minutes later, an armored vehicle rolled on I-29 just north of the Vermillion exit.  Three people were in the vehicle; 27-year-old Justin Charles Wehde of Garretson was killed.  The driver and another passenger were taken to a Vermillion hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The third fatal accident happened south of Beresford. 38-year-old Tonia Marie Anderson of Akron, Iowa, died when her pickup went out of control and rolled in the median.  Anderson was thrown from the truck.

Southeast South Dakota was struck with freezing rain Tuesday morning.  The precipitation left roads very slippery and led to dozens of accidents and reports of vehicles leaving the highway.
