NSU Hosts Entrepreneurship Camp for High School Students

An organizer of an Entrepreneurship Camp at Northern State University says high school is the best time to start a business. That’s why the university is hosting workshops this week to teach high schoolers the ins and outs of entrepreneurship.

Liz Hannum is the Coordinator for the Center for Excellence in International Business and Entrepreneurship at NSU. She says the students attending the camp are learning business law, financing, marketing and pricing strategies, and more. She says it’s time to put more focus on high school entrepreneurship.

“It’s probably the best time to start a business because you have no financial responsibilities, you live with your parents, you don’t have a mortgage,” Hannum says. “So there’s really not as much real risk involved in starting a business. And because of technology and social media and all of those things, there’s not as much emphasis on experience that there would be ten or 15 years ago.”

Hannum says thinking about entrepreneurship early gets high schoolers involved in their community at a young age. She says that encourages students to stay and build up their local communities in the future.
