A new poll from the Billie Sutton Campaign shows a tight race for South Dakota governor.

The Sutton Campaign says it shows their message is resonating with South Dakotans. However, the Kristi Noem campaign points out the poll still shows the Democratic candidate losing.

The early polling results, announced by the Sutton campaign, show the Sutton campaign trailing by four points, with 13 percent still undecided.

The findings are based on a telephone poll of 500 South Dakota voters conducted from July 19 through the 25th on either landline or cellphone.

Democratic candidate Billie Sutton says his bipartisan focus is resonating will voters across all political spectrums.

“We need leaders that are going to bring us together and not seek to divide us,” Sutton says. “People are tired of the status quo and politics as usual and a do-nothing record, which is what Congresswoman Noem has. They’re ready for a different kind of leadership that’s going to get things done around shared values.”

The poll was conducted by Analone Liszt Grove research, a Democratic pollster and strategist firm.

Kristi Noem Campaign Manager Justin Brasell says: "“It’s funny that Democrats are excited about a poll that shows their candidate losing.  And laughable the way they're so desperate to portray the Democratic State Senate Minority Leader Billie Sutton as some sort of Pierre outsider. Regardless of this or any poll, we remain confident that the majority of South Dakotans want a candidate who embodies their values of less government, lower taxes, and more local accountability and control, which Kristi Noem uniquely does.”
