Dr. Laura Colmenero-Chilberg joins the program.  As part of the RC Speaker Series, Dr. Laura Colmenero-Chilberg, Professor of Sociology at Black Hills State University presents “Madness: Women in Pop Culture” Monday, February 13, at 6:30 p.m.  Within all societies, popular culture helps socialize members into appropriate roles. Within human society there are always dominant and subordinate relationships that help create the social structure. Popular culture acts as a method by which all are clued into what is normative and what is deviant behavior within the boundaries of the particular culture.

It takes a steady hand and hours of practice to get the wool ready for that cozy winter sweater. Nearly a dozen sheep shearers from the U.S. and Canada gathered at the Black Hills Stock Show for the National Sheep Shearing Championships. Contestants shared with SDPB’s Chynna Lockett detail about their careers as sheep shearers.

Another round of Moment In Sound. Jenny O. grew up on Long Island, New York.  She studied Jazz at State University of New York at New Paltz and later graduated from State University of New York at Purchase Conservatory of Music with a bachelor's degree in Studio Composition.  She now lives in Los Angeles.  Her Work EP was released in October.  It’s a follow-up to her debut album, Mechanic, which was produced by Jonathan Wilson.

Moment in Sound continues. Robert Ellis is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist based in Houston, Texas, who blends country, pop music and jazz.  He released his fourth CD, the self-titled Robert Ellis, last year.
