Volunteers in South Dakota and the U-S will mark National Public Lands Day on Saturday. Entrance fees at national parks and other public lands are also waived.

Jewel Cave National Monument hosts volunteers tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mountain Time. Bradley Block is chief of interpretation at Jewel Cave. He says a number of service projects are scheduled.

"They range everywhere from picking up some litter, minor trash if you will, along the parking lot areas, maybe the service road coming in from the highway to the visitor center. But we also have a pretty extensive fence area that needs to be removed. A few years ago, some highway construction came through Highway 16 and there's some fence material left behind along with some erosional fabric - and we're looking for volunteers and hoping some volunteers can help us remove that out so we can for lack of better wording, reclaim that area and make it go back to its natural state," Block says.

Block says interested volunteers should check-in at the monument's visitor center. Jewel Cave is located 13 miles west of Custer.

Block says guided tours of Jewel Cave and nearby Wind Cave are free on Saturday.

The Jewel Cave ticket office opens at 8:30 a.m. Mountain, with the first tour beginning at 9:20. Block says visitors should arrive early to ensure they're able to be on one of the tours.
