Chubby Carrier From JazzFest 2013

This week's No Cover, No Minimum Radio stars "The World's Premier Zydeco Showman," Chubby Carrier with his Bayou Swamp Band.  Carrier is a third generation Zydeco artist.  His father, Roy Carrier, grandfather, Warren Carrier and cousins Bebe and Calvin Carrier are considered legends in Zydeco music.  Chubby began playing drums in his father's band at the age of 12.  He began playing the accordion at 15 and, by the age of 17, was touring the world with Terrance Simien's band.

Carrier formed his own band in 1989.  Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band have released 10 albums since 1991.  Their most recent, "Zydeco Junkie," won a Grammy for Best Zydeco or Cajun Album.

Chubby Carrier (vocals and accordion) and the Bayou Swamp Band (Randy Ellis/lead guitar, Jordy Guidry/bass guitar, A.J. Bellow/drums and Earl Sally/washboard) performed a blistering set at JazzFest 2013, presented by the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society, at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls on July 19.
