Campaign Finance Reform Splits SD U.S. Senators

An effort to back a constitutional amendment to limit the amount of money corporations and other groups can give to political campaigns died on the floor of the U.S. Senate late last week.

The move comes following the Citizens United and subsequent decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court that equate campaign contributions with free speech rights.

South Dakota’s Senators cast opposing votes on the resolution.
