Board Readies for Health Summit

The Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board is preparing for its third annual health summit. The board serves South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Iowa. This year’s event focuses on maternal and child health.

Jesse Abernathy is the Communications and Outreach Coordinator for the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board. He says the board has made improving health for mothers and children a top priority this year. He says at the summit experts will discuss a variety of issues on that topic, including important elements of the Affordable Care Act.

“The health summit will demonstrate ways that Medicaid services can be expanded under the Affordable Care Act to sustain tribal health programs, and how the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board can work with our partners out there to improve the health and the healthcare status of the tribal members that we serve in the four states,” Abernathy says.

Abernathy says the summit is for anyone who has an active interest in improving the health of communities in the region, particularly those in public health fields.

Participants need to register by the end of this month. Call Staci LaCroix at 605-721-1922 ext. 108 or email her at staci.lacroix@gptchb.org
