Officials say Black Hills State University in Spearfish is the only South Dakota school selected by collegewebeditor.com to be featured in its higher ed holiday card 2016 edition.

In the virtual card, BHSU student Paige Michael paints a picture of a snowy landscape while a video of Black Hills scenery plays.

Michael, who’s an art education major from Wyoming, says the chance to showcase her art was an unexpected opportunity.

“One of the professors approached me and her name is Desy Schoenewies and she asked if I wanted to do this painting because she knew that I liked to do landscape painting and I’m one of the only people in the department that really do a lot of that stuff and then she just approached me, asked if I was interested, and it really sounded like a good opportunity so I was really excited and grateful that I was able to do it,” says Michael.

Michael says filming took two days from start to finish.

Officials say the video is expected to receive thousands of views now that it’s featured on the college web editor site.
