Basketball Coaching Legend Receiving Hospice Care

Former Northern State University men’s basketball coach Don Meyer is receiving

hospice care in Aberdeen.  The 69-year-old Meyer was diagnosed with inoperable cancer nearly six years ago, after being seriously injured in an auto accident.  Family spokeswoman Brenda Dreyer  says the coach’s illness is affecting everyone in Aberdeen.

Dreyer says,  “We’re a small community and everyone knows the Meyers, whether it be through their various activities, of course coaching at Northern for so many years—and most recently, their involvement through the Don and Carmen Meyer Center for Excellence and the Cancer Center, everybody knows him.”

Meyer retired from coaching with 923 career wins, split between Northern State, a Tennessee university and a college in the Twin Cities.  Anyone wishing to send a message to the Meyer family may use the Coach Don Meyer account on Facebook, or @coachdonmeyer on Twitter.
