Same-sex marriage arguments have been put on hold at the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. The appeals court, which covers seven states including South Dakota, had scheduled arguments on March 12, even though the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments Tuesday.
Now the 8th Circuit has issued a statement that its review is stayed until after the federal high court has issued its opinion, expected to come out at the end of June.
The attorney for South Dakota plaintiffs tells SDPB’s Victoria Wicks the appeals court’s decision not to hear arguments comes as a surprise and an inconvenience.

Rapid City freelancer Victoria L. Wicks has been producing news for SDPB since August 2007. She Retired from this position in March 2023.
